No more anxiety in the operating room thanks to video glasses - Anesthesiology clinic successfully uses HappyMed Video Glasses
The Clinic for Anesthesiology and Operative Intensive Care Medicine at the Christophorus-Kliniken in Coesfeld cares for nearly 10,000 patients a year across 13 specialist departments and 10 specialized centers, using all common procedures of regional as well as general anesthesia. The focus is always on the patient as a human being. Many patients have non-specific fears before surgery. Therefore, it is necessary to address these fears early on. Since 2018, the HappyMed Video Glasses have been firmly established in the anesthesiology clinic's repertoire of anxiety-reducing measures for optimal preparation for surgery and calming patients during interventions.
Dr. Ulrich Frohnhoff, specialist in anesthesiology and senior physician at the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, was able to confirm during two consecutive evaluations (n=26, n=11) that the video glasses are very well received by patients at the Christophorus-Kliniken in Coesfeld and were able to reduce their anxiety.
The results:
- In 62 % of patients who complained of anxiety prior to the procedure, anxiety was reduced through the use of the video glasses.
- 95 % of the patients would choose to use the video glasses again for their next procedure (n=37).
- The selection of movies and the image quality of the system were rated predominantly good on a three-point scale (good – medium – poor).
General:
- The majority of patients were between 60 and 80 years old.
- Areas of application included axillary plexus blocks, sciatic nerve blocks, and spinal anesthesia.
