Since 2017, the HappyMed video glasses have been in use at numerous Sana clinics – and, more recently, at the Sana clinics in Lübeck as well.

‍

For greater patient comfort during treatment – the Interventional Radiology Department at Sana Clinics Lübeck is using HappyMed video glasses

‍

Since July 2020, the department has been the first interventional radiology unit in Germany to use video glasses manufactured by HappyMed.

‍

"The glasses offer many benefits for patients. For example, they allow patients to watch films, documentaries or concerts whilst undergoing treatment. This helps to direct the attention of patients under regional or local anaesthesia towards pleasant and enjoyable things. Unpleasant sensations or noises are pushed into the background by this distraction."

Also used at the Cardiovascular Centre

‍

At the Cardiovascular Centre, a multidisciplinary team of specialists comprising angiologists, vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists and cardiologists carries out diagnostic imaging as well as endovascular procedures and all standard cardiological procedures.

‍

"I am convinced that we can benefit greatly from the video glasses, particularly at the interdisciplinary Cardiovascular Centre (HGZ). Working in close professional collaboration with my colleagues from a wide range of specialist departments, we are constantly striving to improve patient comfort and the safety of treatment. We are therefore delighted that, by using video glasses, we can make treatment and hospital stays significantly more pleasant for patients at the Sana Clinics in Lübeck."

Sana Dreifaltigkeits-Krankenhaus in Cologne is using video glasses during operations!

‍

The system is used, for example, in knee or hip replacement operations. Older patients in particular are making use of the video glasses option. Many fear the risk of suffering side effects such as temporary confusion or disorientation as a result of a general anaesthetic, and of needing a longer recovery time, and therefore refuse a general anaesthetic. We offer regional anaesthesia with video glasses as a good alternative. And the feedback from patients has been very positive.

‍

‍

"Our patients are absolutely delighted with this new service. We offer the glasses particularly to patients who want to take their minds off things whilst under local anaesthesia or who are very nervous before their operation. Immersed in the world of sights and sounds, they quickly forget that they are about to undergo a medical procedure or that they are currently in the operating theatre. Furthermore, the glasses often mean that additional sedatives are not required."During an operation under regional anaesthesia, many patients experience anxiety, for example about the unfamiliar surroundings or the noises during the operation. They feel stressed. HappyMed’s video system provides patients with optimal visual and auditory distraction during the operation, with a choice of educational programmes, Hollywood films or children’s films. This enables us to significantly reduce stress levels during an operation under regional anaesthesia. Our experience shows that our patients are more relaxed and, in most cases, free from anxiety when undergoing an operation under regional anaesthesia rather than general anaesthesia, without the need for additional sedatives.”

A Hollywood film to combat anxiety – HappyMed in action at the Sana Kliniken Sommerfeld

‍

The Sana Kliniken Sommerfeld hospitals use the HappyMed video system, which offers patients a cinema-like experience whilst they undergo surgery under regional anaesthesia: this is made possible by video glasses, a touchscreen and ergonomically designed surround-sound headphones.

‍

“With this product, patients can experience their treatment in a more relaxed, distracted and stress-free manner. For many patients, the mere thought of medical treatment is enough to trigger anxiety and stress. The loss of control causes them to focus even more intently on their surroundings and react hypersensitively to a wide variety of sensory stimuli, such as the beeping of machines. This leads to increased cortisol release, which raises blood pressure and accelerates the heart rate and breathing.”

Head of the Department of Anaesthetology and Intensive Care Medicine, Sana Kliniken Sommerfeld
